GRATITUDE DAY 2024
Join us Saturday, March 9th for the 19th Annual Gratitude Day Barleywine Release!
We’re truly grateful to have spent yet another year with all of you, getting our FRESH LOCAL BEER (and pizza) into your hands here, there, any pretty much chance we can manage. You could even say… we’re filled with Gratitude.
This year is a bit special for us, since Gratitude Day happens to land on the ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY of the not-so-soft opening of our Mount Lebanon Taproom. So since our original 2005 Gratitude release was the celebratory toast to surviving our first year of business, we’re thrilled to bring the tradition to the South Hills for the first time to celebrate our OTHER first year.
Both our locations will offer a full day of Barleywine by the flight and the glass, all forms of Gratitude cans to go, a special Barleywine friendly pizza from both of our East End Chewing kitchens, and in Mt. Lebanon, an afternoon of live music to help you celebrate!
Now… about this year’s releases:
We thought we’d try something new this time, beyond the simple (yet delightful) act of aging our beer in different kinds of spirit barrels. Taking inspiration from the spirits themselves, and the classic cocktails they’re based on, we carefully introduced some additional ingredients to help twist, muddle, zest, and shake things a bit more into a familiar direction:
The Old Fashioned Gratitude Barleywine has been aged in a bourbon barrel, with orange and orange zest.
The Sazerac Gratitude Barleywine has been aged in rye whiskey barrels, with anise, lemon, and lemon zest.
The Irish Coffee Gratitude Barleywine has been aged in whiskey barrels, with coffee and vanilla.
A big thanks to our friendly neighbors and cocktail pros over on Hamilton Avenue, Goodlander Cocktail Brewery for their zesty help making two of this year’s variations a reality.
Gratitude around town:
We’re also thoroughly honored once again that so many local and not so local beer making establishments will be tapping a keg of Gratitude Barleywine at their locations with us this day, to help spread the love and appreciation across our little slice of Western PA. Seriously… this is the coolest thing, and you can see the whole list below.
So, without further adieu, here are the specifics for this year:
