Just a little heads up, effective NOW the Pittsburgh Public Market is running with "Winter Hours".  So, for your Growlering needs we're open...

At the Growler Shop in the Strip:

  • FRI 10-4pm
  • SAT 9-5pm
  • SUN 12-3pm

And of course at the brewery, we're back to our regular non-holiday hours now...

 At the Brewery:

  • TUE 5-7pm
  • WED 5-7pm
  • THU 5-7pm
  • FRI 4-8pm
  • SAT 12-5pm

Hope you're already having a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Cheers, Scott

I think it's pretty cool that the Craft Beer scene here in Pittsburgh has grown so much that it needs its own Magazine to keep up with everything that's going on here.

Locally written, locally distributed, and all about GOOD local BEER! Go to the Craft Pittsburgh website http://craftpittsburgh.com/ to download a PDF of the premiere issue. Or maybe you already grabbed a free printed copy here at the brewery? Happy reading! Cheers - Scott

Well, it appears the dream of releasing Gratitude 2010 in calendar year 2010 has slipped through our fingers... just like last year, and almost every Gratitude year before it.  But we're close.  Labels are approved, hand printed, and now in-hand.  We just need to find some time to get them onto the bottles - tricky around the Christmas and New Years holidays, with how they land this year.

But we'll push on thru it (volunteers at the ready!), and hopefully get a release date on the calendar for a Saturday some time in mid to late January.  More as we figure it out... Cheers - Scott

I've been getting loads of calls and emails, and I'm happy to report that we still have plenty of Homewood Reserve 2010 and Eye Opener Coffee Porter bottles here at the brewery.  (And even a little Illustration Ale too!)  The only Festival of Darkness beer we don't have on right now is the Steelcut Oatmeal Stout/Black IPA and that's because we don't have an open tap yet.  The Czech Please! Session beer is the next one to run out, so if you're enjoying it, get some while you can, and help us move on to the next beer at the same time!

So, on tap at the brewery we've got...

Big Hop IPA, Black Strap Stout, Fat Gary Nut Brown Ale, Monkey Boy Hefeweizen, Snow Melt Winter Ale, Session Ale #48: Czech Please!,  Session Ale #49: Steam Beer, Session Ale #50: "...And sat down be cider".

And for the beer-gamblers among you, we're still moving Wooden Nickel at the deeply discounted rate of 4 bottles for $30! While supplies last - details about why we're doing this are down toward the bottom of our F.O.D. page.

I'll post the tap list for the Growler Shop in the Strip as soon as we can sort out exactly what that will be.

Cheers - Scott

We're finally living up to our full potential here... the FESTIVAL OF DARKNESS will be in full swing this Saturday with the release of two new beers, one in bottles, one on draft.  Click here for all of the release day particulars.  And YES, you can bring beer in to share!  I know I will (but maybe you guessed that).

Meanwhile, here's what's on tap at the brewery:

Big Hop IPA, Black Strap Stout, Fat Gary Nut Brown Ale, Monkey Boy Hefeweizen, Snow Melt Winter Ale, Session Ale #48: Czech Please! (Czech Pilsner),  Session Ale #49: Steam Beer, Session Ale #50: "...And sat down be cider"

And of course, all of those F.O.D. beers in bottles and draft.

And here's what's on tap at the Growler Shop in The Strip:

Big Hop IPA, Monkey Boy Hefeweizen, Snow Melt Winter Ale, and we'll be starting with Eye Opener Coffee Porter (for Growler fills!). And when the Snow Melt is gone, we'll switch it over to Session Ale #50:"...And sat down be CIDER". Or at least, that's my best prediction.

I'm not sure how long the Snow Melt will hold out, but the Coffee Porter should be well-stocked (over 90 Growlers worth) all weekend long at the Growler Shop.  Heck, we may pull Monkey Boy, replace it with Fat Gary and have a mini F.O.D. in the Strip!

See you soon!  Cheers - Scott

The long wait is over, and we're about ready to release this beer.  See HERE for details!

AT THE BREWERY:

It's looking like we'll be tapping TWO BRAND NEW Session Ales today at the brewery - actually, we tapped the first one last night.  This first is a "California Common" style of beer that's really not so common.  It's brewed with a lager yeast, but fermented at Ale temperatures.  You may also know  it as a Steam Beer, and that's what we're calling it: Session Ale #49: Steam Beer

The other new one is a revisitation of a "beer" we brewed last year, with locally-pressed apples.  Something we're calling: Session Ale #50: ...And sat down be cider.  And yes, it is gluten free.

Here's the rest of the lineup at the Brewery: Big Hop IPA, Black Strap Stout, Fat Gary Nut Brown Ale, Monkey Boy Hefeweizen, Snow Melt Winter Ale, and of course Session Ale #48: Czech Please! which is as you may have guessed, a Czech Pilsner.

AT THE SHOP IN THE STRIP:

We've got a lot of odds and ends to run through, including The Bitter End, Black Strap Stout, Fat Gary, RaspberRye, Monkey Boy and maybe even a little Pedal Pale Ale.  So, I can't say exactly what will be on tap when this weekend at the shop.  Except for Snow Melt Winter Ale, which will be on tap the whole time.

See you soon!  Cheers - Scott

We don't take many days off for Growler Hours, but one is coming up next week: Thanksgiving. We're closed that day, but we're adding a bit of time the evening before, so you can stock up for our Nation's big "Day of Overeating".

Hours at the Brewery for Thanksgiving Week:

Tuesday 5-7pm

Wednesday 4-7pm

Thursday CLOSED

Friday 4-8pm

Saturday 12-5pm

Hours at the Growler Shop in the Strip:

Friday 9-6pm Open EARLY for a Friday!

Saturday 9-5pm

Sunday 12-4pm

Hope to see you at one place or the other.  But if we don't, have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Cheers - Scott

Update 11/22/10: The Coffee Porter label below was rejected after all.  Apparently the puzzle we were so indelicately putting in there was decoded as "Eye Opener", which is viewed as a Health Claim, and as such is not permitted... their words, not mine.

So, we've found something mutually acceptable, as Wayno calls it - a Split Decision:

These labels have not been approved yet, and as a result, the beers are not ready for release, but I had to share them with you - especially the COFFEE PORTER label that Wayno just finished.

Clearly very different labels, and a stunning demonstration of what it means to have a PROFESSIONAL ARTIST do work for you, versus doing it yourself.  There's just no comparison.  Wayno rocks!

Look for a Coffee Porter release date the week after Thanksgiving - always nice to have some coffee after a big meal, right?

Homewood Reserve will be released in about 3-4 weeks from now, so let's call it mid-December.  That and the addition of an Oatmeal Stout on draft will officially mean that our "Festival of Darkness" is in full swing.

At the brewery...

YEAR ROUND BEERS:

Big Hop IPA

Black Strap Stout

Monkey Boy Hefeweizen

Fat Gary Nut Brown Ale

SEASONALS:

Snow Melt Winter Ale

SESSION ALES:

#47 RaspberRye Ale

#46 The Bitter End 2010 Edition

#44 "Weisse this beer sour?"... which should run out on Friday (11/12/10), and be replaced by...

Tapping this Friday: #48 Czech Please! - a rare lager from East End!  Recipe is from David Mutschler, winner of the "East End Award" at the recent TRASH Homebrewing Competition.  Bright, hoppy, and long-lagered, this beer is finally ready to go!

BIG BOTTLES: Illustration Ale (Belgian Dark Strong Ale)

And of course, we've got our Home Made Root Beer and Seltzer on tap for Growler fills too.

IN THE STRIP AT OUR GROWLER SHOP THIS WEEKEND...

Well, good question.  With only 4 taps, we're finding it difficult to dial in a representative sampling of the beers we've got in stock.  So I'll say that it will be SOME MIX of the following 6 beers, serving only 4 at a time of course:

Pedal Pale Ale, The Bitter End, Black Strap Stout, Fat Gary Nut Brown, Monkey Boy Hefeweizen, Snow Melt Winter Ale

But which four is hard to say, as we'll be changing it up as the old ones run out to make way for the new.

See you soon!  Cheers -Scott
